History of Biology Department

The Department of Biology at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) was established in 1989 based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education No.12/DIKTI/Kep/1989 concerning the establishment of the Biology Study Program. Since its inception, the department has continued to grow in line with the evolving landscape of higher education in Indonesia and now oversees two academic programs: the Bachelor of Biology Program and the Master of Biology Program. Both programs have achieved the highest national accreditation the Bachelor’s Program through BAN-PT Decree No. 9889/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.KP/S/1/2023 and the Master’s Program through LAMSAMA Decree No. 064/SK/LAMSAMA/Akred/M/XII/2022 reflecting the department’s strong commitment to excellence in education, research, and community service.
